Do you struggle at meal times to get your kids to sit at the table for a set amount of time to eat? This tip can be used for any meal of the day however I save ours for dinner time – this is the Timer Trick!
What you need is a egg timer – like shown the photo above (or a phone timer will work too)
What I do: I call dinner time and get the kids to sit at the table. I then say ” the timer is now on, you must not leave the table until the timer goes off.” I then place the timer beside me, or on a bench close by so the kids are aware that it is there but also so they can hear it go off. I usually set the timer for 15 to 20 minutes. I find this a great way to teach them about sitting down together to have a meal but this also comes in handy if you are out at a cafe or restaurant. Eventually it will become more of a habit and just the thing you do, so you wont then need to use the timer. You can purchase timers for reasonably cheap from most supermarkets or department stores. Do you use the timer trick in your house? Does it work for you? Do you have any other tricks to get your kids to stay at the table?
